Homework Ideas: How To Manage Your Assignments Efficiently
Nobody likes homework, but it’s designed to help you retain what you learned in school and reinforce that information, so you can retain it for later. Here are a few ways you can make the drudgery that is homework a little more effective and a little less painful.
Designate a homework area.
Clear off your desk so that it’s already ready to be worked on. Find a good library spot that you can always go to. If you’re working at home, make sure the area is clean, quiet and set up with supplies, like pencils or a calculator. If you go out to do your work, create a sort of mobile workspace, a box or holder that you have all of your supplies in and make sure that space is quiet too.
Do your work in the same place at the same time every day.
Do this to get a rhythm going, so that your mind and body start to expect it! Also, even if you don’t have something due in a certain class, you should at least review your notes so that you know what to expect tomorrow.
Make lists and prioritize.
Keep a running list of everything that is due and when, then check off what you do and move on. You can skip around to what is most important or what is due sooner. Also, note how much each assignment is worth so that you’re not wasting too much time on something that’s worth ten points and ignoring something that’s worth 100.
Become more engaged and organized during the day.
You may find that your mind wanders and before you know it class is over, and you have no idea what you talked about. Maybe, if you take notes or discuss the class with a friend, you’ll be more likely to be prepared for your school work at night. Also, if you find creative ways to organize what you went over, like diagrams or pictures, you will be able to refer to it later more easily.
Use your time wisely.
Study in study hall! If you are waiting for a bus or for your parents to pick you up, these are great times to sneak in a little homework. You can even study with friends instead of just getting together to talk about people in your class. You’ll find that doing homework can often take place at the same time as gossip and fun!
Talk about it.
If you feel overwhelmed or confused, talk to your teacher, counselor, and parent or trusted an adult. Sometimes teachers do give out too much homework and the other adults in your life will never know if you don’t tell them. At the very least you can vent some of your frustration.
There’s always room to celebrate when you’ve done a good job!
